Mental health and learning

The 3A Toolkit

A self-paced program that teaches a clinical method for stress, anxiety and ADHD, built on doctoral research and twelve years of use in schools, clinics and therapy rooms.

The gap we found

The clinical understanding of stress, anxiety and self-regulated learning is not the missing piece. It is well researched, and in the right hands it works.

What is missing is access. The method sits behind a waitlist and a clinician’s hour, and the people who need it most often, a parent at bedtime, a teacher at 2pm on a Tuesday, an adult who has been coping alone for years, are the people least able to reach it in that form.

The wellness market fills that gap with content: streaks, meditations, mood scores. Useful for some, but it is not the method, and it is not held to a research standard.

So the design brief was narrow and unusual. Take a method with twelve years of clinical use behind it, and deliver the method itself, intact, age-appropriate and self-paced, to people who will never be in the room with the clinician who developed it.

The 3A method

Three steps, in sequence, small enough that a child can hold them and a stressed adult can actually use them.

A1

Awareness

Notice what is happening: the thoughts, and just as importantly the physical sensations that arrive before the thoughts do.

A2

Assign a label

Name it. Stress, anxiety, overwhelm, frustration. Naming is not a formality. It is what makes the state something you can act on rather than something you are.

A3

Action

Apply the body-calming and cognitive strategies that fit the label, matched to the state rather than applied uniformly.

The editions

Adult Edition

The full stress-regulation course: reader, short videos and reflection activities, worked through at the reader’s own pace.

Youth Edition

The same method written for teens and adolescents, in their language and around the situations they are actually in.

Junior Edition

Adapted for younger children to work through alongside a caregiver, so the household ends up with shared language for it.

Thriving with ADHD

A neurodiversity-affirming course of eight modules across three layers, built on the premise that ADHD is a difference to work with rather than a deficit to correct.

Family Bundle

Unlocks the Adult, Junior and Youth editions for up to ten household members under a single code.

School licensing

One annual code and support for many students, with a co-regulation program and the Stress Stories Project for schools in development.

Built forAdults, youth and younger children. Families, schools and districts.

The research behind it

The 3A Toolkit was created by Dr. Meg Kapil, RCC, from her doctoral research on stress, mental health and self-regulated learning, work recognized with the BCACC Distinguished Professional Contribution to Applied Research Award and the CCPA Doctoral Dissertation Award. The method has been used for twelve years in schools, one-on-one therapy and group clinics across Canada and the United States. It provides education and self-help tools and does not replace care from a qualified professional.
